GeoWall is UC Berkeley’s geotechnical engineering competition team. We challenge students to design and build small-scale mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls using paper reinforcement. The competition offers students hands-on experience with soil mechanics, lab testing, and real-world engineering design. Teams must follow ASTM standards to create an efficient and cost-effective wall. This experience also helps them learn about the industry and teamwork. In 2026, we made campus history by placing in the national Geo-Institute GeoWall competition for the first time.
